This is it!!! Summer is Here!

Can you even believe it!?!?!? Here we are… the last week of school. Heading into our 15th and FINAL week of being apart. Your last PE week at a glance:

1) Pause… if you have a dad in your world, did you remember to tell them how awesome they are yesterday!?!? Quick, go do that and then come back!

2) We’ll post a few more workouts. I really hope we’ve put something out there that appeals to you. Trust me when I tell you, that you need to intentionally keep working on your fitness and health. There is no better investment than your own physical and mental health. Get out EVERY DAY and move. Anything… follow a plan, go for a walk, ride your bike, shoot hoops… just move.

3) Our last week of fitness challenge… we have one for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. New members ALWAYS welcome. We’d LOVE LOVE LOVE to see any of you. Noon at code cngfitness

4) Have you heard about the CNG Parade Route!! It should come to your emails. Friday is the big day!! Be there. Please. If not for you, then for us. We miss your faces. I thought it would be fun to name it Educators Parading in Cars (EPIC!!! Get it!? Cheesy but fun!) I’ve put a link to the map that was sent to parents in the weekly newsletter. Please find a spot on the route that is closest to your house and wait for us to drive by. We are leaving the school to start the parade at 1pm, so don’t be late and be patient so we can all see you! Check with your friends and make sure EVERYONE knows. Bring it up in your class meets. It’s our chance to say goodbye!

PARENT-Parade Route

Happy summer CNG family.  I’m desperately hoping September resembles something that feels and looks more like ‘the good old days’. Soak up each and every moment of summer!

The “SUN”Light at the End of Tunnel

Count down is on! Three weeks to go!
Week at a glance:

1) Thank you to our teams that participated in our Hand-Eye-Athon! You are the coolest! Thanks for giving the tasks a try and sharing your talent with us. Lots of awesome videos and really funny ideas! Congrats to The M&Ms for being our big winners and to Brute Cucumbers taking second place!

2) We will be posting different fitness lessons and ideas for our final module of PE for our 2020 school year. Our goal is to offer many different styles and ideas of workouts you can do to stay in shape OR get back in shape if you’ve been pretty still for the past 85 days. Check each day what we are posting and hopefully we can find something that interests you to be able to work on for the remainder of the year and into the summer. Your body will struggle at first but then it will thank you, and your brain is desperately needing the benefits of movement.

3) Athlete kids… I’m talking to students who play a sport either for our school teams or in your community! It’s really important that you find the motivation to keep training and working on your own personal strength and fitness. Once sport opens up again, you want to be sure you are still in shape to be able to compete and hold your spot with your team/club. Plus, for students who are used to being active a lot of the time, this break from “life” can be really hard on your mental health. You need to find it in yourself to work on some physical goals. Do not let the sport you love slip away because you have chose to not stick with it over this break. This is actually EXACTLY what defines you as an athlete and keeping EPIC in mind, kids who pursue excellence and have the courage to act with perseverance and integrity now when it’s easy to quit will be the ones who come out on top when sport begins again. BE THAT PERSON.

4) Our daily fitness challenge group meets every day at 12pm at google meet cngfitness . Even if you’ve never come before, please pop in anytime. The challenge usually takes only 3-5 minutes and we’d love to see your faces.

5) Please take a moment to read this week’s We Are Phoenix. We are looking to make a video gift for our parent volunteers who helped and supported at CNG this school year.

Some things to do for this rainy week!

Hope you had an awesome long weekend! The weather was gorgeous and gifted the perfect opportunity to get outside and move your body!
Short week, weekly update:
1) Last week of things to try for our hand eye coordination module.

2) Don’t forget to send us any runs/jogs/walks that you are completing. All we need is a screen shot of your app at the end of your workout! Attach it to the collecting kms form OR send it to one of us in an email.

3) Next week is our Hand-Eye-Athon! You have until FRIDAY to sign up a team. Like our virtual track meet, you need a team of 1, 2 or 3 people. It can be the same team you had before or a completely new team, that is up to you!!! You will need to agree on a team name and ONE member will need to submit your team name and photo to the form to be entered into the challenge. Once again, be cautious with social distancing and feel free to be creative in photo editing with your team photo. I will once again deliver prizes to our winning team(s), so get signed up and get your team in the challenge. Watch for the Hand-Eye-Athon event to show up in classwork!

4) Keep your eyes peeled for what movie set, I mean what landmark Mini-Morden adventures to this week and also keep travelling to Mr Turner’s locations.

5) Don’t forget, we have a group fitness challenge every day at noon. The meet code is cngfitness and we’d love to have you on any days that work for you to workout with us. The workout starts at 12:10 and usually lasts about 2-7 minutes!

A Week in May…

Welcome back team!!! Here’s what’s up this week in PE:

1) I hope you remembered to love on your moms, grandmas and aunties this weekend for Mother’s Day! If you forgot, stop everything and go do that now!!!

2) We have a week’s worth of hand-eye challenges for you and they are FUN! We can’t wait to hear about you trying them or even sending videos of your successes (and bloopers too!)

3) Our new 30 day challenge starts TODAY! Please join at at NOON in the google meet with the code cngfitness. This will happen everyday for the next 30 days so come to as many as you can… WE MISS SEEING YOU and exercising with others is always more fun than alone!

4) Community connection: This week we are asking for any photos you have taken this year that you think would be fun to have in the yearbook. Anything with groups of people during field trips, spirit days, sports events or anything else you enjoyed! Also, you can submit a photo of yourself during isolation keeping busy if you want to! Go to We Are Phoenix and add your photos by the end of the week!
Keep your eyes peeled for where Morden and Mini-Morden go this week!
Happy adventuring and finding Mr Turner’s new locations!

5) I’ve added another week to hand in your “pass” for We are Phoenix. The video turned out pretty neat actually but I only got 25 catch/throws. Check out the video in the classroom and please go to the form to add yours… if I get more, I’ll update the video and repost next week! PLEASE join in the fun! I want to see your faces!

Welcome May!!!

Hello May!!! Week at a glance for PE and community:

1) We start our 2 week hand-eye coordination module. We are supposed to be spending May in our Bubba Baseball module where we focus on throwing, catching and sending. It’s pretty hard for most people to play baseball with just their families, so we’ll be doing some alternate activities. Each day will be a lesson and an activity or task to try. We will have one day a week that will be going for a run or jog. Following these two week, we are going to have a grade vs grade vs staff Hand-Eye-Athon! Stay tuned for more details!

2) We will continue to collect KMs for Nova Scotia. Any day you go out on the path, please track your run/jog/walk and send us how far you went in the form posted in classwork called Collecting KMs. If you need help finding it just email us! We’ve got a great start but need soooo many more!

3) Please take a couple minutes to add your answers to our Wordle good bye gift for Mr Derdall. It’s in the We Are Phoenix section in our classwork!  The more kids we get the more meaningful it will be!

4) Looking for some fun and connection? This week we are playing pass in Connolley Connection, check out the details and submit your VERY short video by Friday! The more people to take part the better the video will be. Just a super simple catch and throw, find it in We Are Phoenix.

5) Keep your guessing coming in for Where’s Hudson this week! Loving seeing your faces in Mr Turner’s Community Corner!

6) Last 2 days of our first fitness challenge! There are only a few BRAVE athletes left!!! We got this!

Happy week folks! I hope you enjoy all the sunshine. Get out there and move your mood!

Closing out April

Happy Monday everyone! Here is our week at a glance for April 27-May1:

1) We had soooo much fun last week with our teams that participated in our Virtual Track Meet! Thank you for all the videos, photos and laughs. You guys are the coolest! We have our results in our track and field folder in classwork. Congrats and thanks again for playing along!!

2) We have our last 10 days of our fitness challenges and it’s gotten tough!!! Our groups have shrunk in size and we’re hoping to get more kids out as it becomes more challenging! Check our PE schedule space to find the codes and times!

3) There will be 3 connection tasks this week for anyone looking for something to do!

  • Monday is We are Phoenix… check out Connolley’s first ever cooking video!  Cupcakes (or whatever you wish to bake) to celebrate Nichola Goddard’s birthday on Saturday!
  • Find out where Morden and Hudson adventure to this week on Wednesday.
  • Finally find Turner’s locations on Friday!

4) Our track module has come to a close. We are finishing off each month with a kilometre collection challenge. The last week of each month with be called CNG Runs. Please read the assignment in the classwork and find daily mini-lessons that will make you a better runner regardless of your current level.  I thought it would be a beautiful mission to virtually run/jog/wog (combo of walk and jog) to Nova Scotia to send our love as they heal through their tragedy from last week.  If we ran the TransCanada, we’d need 4843.6 km to get there.  In our very large school that’s only 5.7 kms each over the course of the week!!!  We can do it!

Have an awesome week Phoenix! We miss you and hope you are healthy.

Have I Told You Lately That I Miss You!

Here’s a little something that I’ve made with a whole lot of help from my friends.  I hope the message is clear…

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bbdSoyR7lSR5eRmIFQDY2UUN3-bDG1vp/view?usp=sharing

Do a little school work, find ways to get exercise and go enjoy the sunshine.  I have a Connolley Connection challenge right now to “Chalk Your Walk”… go out and decorate your driveway, sidewalk in front of your house, parking space in your apartment complex or pathway near your home.  Use chalk or here’s a safe recipe for adding some colour:

Sidewalk Paint Recipe

  • 1 part water
  • 1 part cornstarch
  • liquid watercolor or food dye

Take care, stay well and remember I miss you!

A New Week, Same Old Story

We’ve been posting a week at a glance on our PE Classrooms, but thought we’d like to keep our parent community in the loop too.

Week at a glance:
We hope you enjoyed your long weekend! Here is our week in PE and what we have planned for you:
1) Track and field module continues. Give the daily lesson a try. Feel free to pop into our afternoon meeting (movementfeedback) to show us your form or to chat about the task.
2) Once you’ve completed the lessons, and given the movements a try, you can click ‘Done’ on the assignment. We are interested to know how many kids are visiting and trying the lessons. You do not have to submit a video or picture of your completing the workout but you can if you would like some feedback.
3) The daily challenge meetups continue, so hopefully you did the 4 challenges over the weekend and you’re ready to pick up on day 9! Anyone can join these groups so please see PE schedule in classwork to find times and codes.
4) I’m SUPER proud to be able to share with you that CNG Senior Girls basketball team was deemed as division champions this season. Though the season did not complete, they finished as the top ranked team. Reach out to the team and send them your congratulations!
5) Connolley Connection #1 is done! Thank you to everyone who sent me your hearts… I LOVE them! I created a collection of them… hope you enjoy seeing work that belong to each other… it’s like being together apart!

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gX1RZt2BaBUUMErFh5T5bIoabi9cwcjY/view?usp=sharing

The link should lead you to the little video I made using the hearts I collected last week. More were submitted to me yesterday, but the deadline was Friday so they didn’t make the cut off.  Doesn’t mean I didn’t love and appreciate them!

Hope all is good in your homes.  I hope you aren’t going too stir crazy. I hope the weather begins to cooperate soon so that your kids can get outside and get fresh air and sunshine.  I miss seeing their faces and spending time with them.  It’s been one month since all this craziness started… I hope they are understanding their ongoing learning in their core classes and that parent community is not stressing over it.  Please reach out if you need support with your kids or with understanding the online classrooms.  I’m happy to try to help.

Stay well.  Hug your kiddos from me!

Where in the World Are You!?!?

Good morning everyone!

Just a reminder to go to the PE classroom daily.  There are tons of new things you’ll find there:

  1. fitness challenge workout schedule and code to connect
  2. track and field lessons
  3. community building activities posted Mon/Wed/Fri
  4. schedule for reaching out daily for movement feedback with code

We have a goal setting survey and we’ve only heard from 162 kids!!!!  Though nothing in our PE classroom is mandatory, we care sooo much about your physical and mental health.  Connecting with you is important to us in a huge way.  There is no stress or pressure attached to the PE classroom… you have your academic studies still being assessed and you should be doing 2 hours daily of studies.  After that, what in the world are you doing with your time!?!?!?  Come do some PE with us, try different ways to move, keep your body and brain healthy.
